"From 90-year-old Grenache vines planted in the sector of Les Serres, one barrel of a2021 Chateauneuf du Pape called Not For You was produced. It's a play on words so to speak because the alcohol levels are through the roof and it took 30 month to ferment dry. It is similar to what Henri Bonneau does with his Cuvee Speciale in years where he has made that wine (1990 and 1998). It is an Amarone-styled Chateauneuf du Pape with over-the-top richness, full-bodied, massive extract, great purity and loads of kirsch, grilled steak juices, herbes de Provence and lavender. A classic albeit gargantuan Chateauneuf du Pape, a glass or two will provide a considerable buzz given the elevated alcohol. It is a singular wine that will no doubt be controversial, but I loved it."

"The2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée de Mon Aieul 100% Grenache aged in tank (50%), pyramid-shaped, truncated wood cuves (40%) and barrels (10%) will not make anyone forget the2021. The good news is that ther are 1.500 cases in2021. Already seductive and more evolved than the2021,2021 and2021 were at a similar age, the deep ruby/purple-colored2021 reveals a sweet bouquet of blueberries, black raspberries, nori (the seaweed wrapper used in sushi restaurants), grilled meats, roasted herbs and spice. Medium to full-bodied with a plump, voluptuous texture, superb purity and silky tannins it should be one of the few Mon Aieuls that will be irresistible upon release. It will evolve for 12-15+ years."

"I was able to taste 3 separate samples destined for the2021 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul and each rated between 95 and 98 points. Despite serious concentration and very lofty alcohol levels, and we’re talking over 16%, the samples were incredibly fresh (no acidity was added), textured and balanced. Stunning stuff and this estate is producing some of the most exciting wines in Châteauneuf!"
